She-Rock Clock Love!!

She-Rock's first Rock Clock....made from one of our love garden rocks (our herb garden hosts rocks that are heart shaped, we collect them). Thanks to my husband who did the rock drilling.
Got a favorite rock, I can make you your own clock!

Day at the Craft Show

She-Rock's First Show: Nov 6th. 2010. Bowness Sports Complex.

Thanks to friends and family who came to check it out. I was there with my friend Krissy with her booth, the Calgary Cloth Diapers: www.calgaryclothdiaperco.ca

There were also lots of kids who came out to see what my sign was made from, and it was a fun thing to touch and learn about pretty rocks.

The Day went by really fast. I never even got to take out my tools and make anything on site. So display racks and rock hammer handy, I sold half my stock!  Most popular items were the bookmarks and the necklace sets. So were the coasters. I even had one person who wanted the whole stock of coasters for his backsplash in his kitchen. Sorry Ken.

 My displays up close

My first attempt at making a She-Rock shirt. Black with chains and Snowflake obsidian beads scattered.

Karen my mother-in-law came by just before the "old timers gala dinner" and found something to go with her outfit. She got the Red Granite necklace and earing set.

Some of my favorite things

Black Basalt (lava) Necklace and earings-SOLD

One of my first necklaces was made out of Serpentine (yellow/green), and without being too heavy, was a great weight and looked great with v-neck shirts. Matching earnings.

Blue Howlite long chain necklace and earings

This blue Howlite chain necklace has a strong blue (some call it Turquenite). Often confused with Turquoise, but it is not.

Multi-Jasper Bead (wood), three chain offset necklace with earings

Stone Signage

It was another attempt to create a fun item for display at my upcoming Craft show on Saturday the 6th of November at the Bowness Sportplex NW.

I wanted to make a sign made like a tile mosaic, made from old candle stones i had lying around and some pebbles from the local playground. Great pebbles. I tried to arrange them many times. When I finally got it right, I tried to tape them in place to lift them out, then cover the board in tile adhesive. That didn't work at all. So had to do it on the fly anyways when the adhesive was layed out.  Even to this day, little pebbles keep falling from the sign...

Getting Artistic:Making Props.

Making Props: What I Needed was Duck Tape, plastic garbage bag, green painters tape, newspaper, small bucket of wallpaper glue/painters brush, and a lamp with no shade. Also some finishing textured paint.

Since I needed to make a display object to hang my longer necklaces for display, it was time to make one. None of the store bought display necks would do. All of them were too short, and too expensive.
So one day, I started searching U-tube about how to make a papermache body double (top only).
I got some ideas. So my girldfriend and I had a lovely day off just duck taping each other (over our plastic bag forms). After a good few layers of duck tape we had to cut the thing off (right down the back). Being careful not to either tape the ribs too tight or cut your back in the cutting stage. Definitely a strange process, as you are unable to touch your toes, move your arms or just breath easy.
When it was time to cut up the back open, it was a relief. It was now time to start the process of stuffing it. I managed to get an old heavy weighted lamp, removed the lampshade, and place it inside the double with the nob out the top. The base fit perfectly with my hips. That was just luck. Stuffing around the sides of the lamp, and securing it in place. Closing off the arms and the top of the neck with tape to make it easier to stuff.

Making it easier to add the finishing basic touches to the item and carry it around by the top nob.
After getting a layer of green painters tape all over, it was time to add the papermache layers. Changing a few of the shapes to add character to them (duck tape is not accurate). I then layered the papermache with some spray paint (stone effects) over the entire thing. Now it is ready to dress and hang necklaces on it with my show coming up November 6th. I can display some of my favorite pieces. It also sits really solidly on a table.

It all starts here

Today is the first day of my blog about my new business that I started early in 2009. I dreamed about blending my love for the Geosciences and the outdoors, with my passion for fashion.  So it started as me making my own Jewelry and wearing them around corporate Calgary. It then has now led to me making more and experimenting with ideas of style and the ability to now to sell to friends and family, and Calgary.
The tales of my craft are created and recorded here...included are pictures of pieces...me making them and future ideas, videos, links and websites. I also share a few funny stories about my craft road blocks, and my future goals.
